Volvo Repair: transmission, head gasket, mobile mechanic

Question
This is a follow up question relating to the head gasket question. Thanks for the reply and useful info. A mobile mechanic we have used when my volvo guy is unavailable is coming tommorrrow to check it out. I am curious as to how water leaked into transmission. Being a novice, is it all related to the head gasket work done prior to my purchase?
I have owned 7 various model voves and never encountered this particular problem. Thanks again for promt reply.

Answer
Michael, The radiator is divided into 2 parts.  One part has the transmission lines going into it and then the other part is for the coolant.  Over time as the raditor ages, sometimes the plastic breaks inside causing the coolant and transmission fluid to mix. Same principle with a head gasket.  When the gasket breaks, the coolant mixes with the oil  causing the Milkshake look.  The transmission looks like a Strawberry shake.  Hope this helped.  Roger
