Volvo Repair: 89 760 wagon - transmission clunk, shifter move, induction system

Question
Hi there... I just picked up a used 89 760 turbo wagon that seems to be in great shape. Two problems seem to need attention right away.

It has a bit of a cold start issue... when starting the car cold it does start right up, but has a rough up-and-down idle and seems like it's "gulping" for fuel. This lasts until it's warm, and then it doesn't seem to affect performance.

Second, I'm noticing a "clunk" in the auto trans between first and second gears. I can feel it almost directly under the driver's seat, and you can see the shifter move as well when it happens. Doesn't happen every time (and never on the downshift), but it is troubling.

Your expretise is much appreciated!

Answer
COLD START I WOULD TRY GETTING THE THROTTLE ,INTAKE MANIFOLD AND INTAKE VALVES CLEANED WITH SOME TYPE OF INDUCTION SYSTEM CLEANER BY A REPAIR SHOP. THE BEST IS THE WALNUT BLASTER WE USE ON THE VALVES TO CLEAN THE INTAKE VALVE OF CARBON DEPOSITES THAT CAN ABSORB FUEL ON START UP AND NOT ALLOW THE PROPER AMOUNT TO THE ENGINE.

AS FOR THE CLUNK I WOUL DCHECK THE TRANSMISSION MOUNT FOR BEING BAD.
