Volvo Repair: Frost plug leaking oil, car leaks, flame trap

Question
I have a '96 volvo 850 2.3l turbo. The frost plug on the back of the engine (as you are looking at it from the front of the car) leaks. the oil drips down onto the turbo and recently it started on fire and wrecked a bunch of stuff. I am getting the plug replaced. My question is, why would oil come up through the frost plug? is it as a result of really bad blow by? does it mean that something else is wrong? should I be concerned at all or just replace the plug and not worry about it. Thank you for you answer!

Mike

Answer
Mike, first check you oil cap seal.  If its brittle and you can see oil leaking from the valve cover, replace it.  Also, remove the hose from the airbox down to the throtle and check the flame trap filter.  If its clogged up, then replace it.  Let me know what you find.   Roger
