Question
thanks for the rapid reply!  You are correct in assumming I have a 240 volvo...its a 1984 240 volvo gL with A/C.  Are the ac bolts located on the engine block mount or opposite nearest the wheel well side?  And where is the tensioner located?

My power steering drive belt rotates off of its pulley despite retightening of the belt and I think it needs replacement.  I'm attempting to replace my power steering pump drive belt and must first remove the a/c compressor belt from the double v pulley.  How do I remove the AC belt?  Is there a tensioner on the compressor to loosen the belt or something complicated like removing the entire compressor?

Answer -
Willard, Im assuming you have a 240 or 700 or 900 series since you didnt tell me what year or model you have.  Your problem isnt the tightening.  Its the bushings that hold the pump into the brackett.  There are adjustments on the compressor.  Loosen the 13mm nut in the front and rear of the compressor, then loosen the 10mm bolt that adjusts the tension on the compressor and you can remove the belt.  Roger

Answer
Willard, in that case you have a totally different animal.  The best way to remove the compressor belt is with a 22mm socket and ratchet and a prybar and walk the belt off.  That is a shimmed pulley system and its basically a pain to adjust that belt.  The pump is easy to take off and replace the bushings.  Remember with the new p/s belt to gently pull towards you with a pry bar, then tighten the bolts back up.  Roger
