Volvo Repair: 2003 S60 Volvo 2.4L non-turbo, turbo james, lengthy time

Question
James,

After driving the car for a lengthy time the check engine light comes on. When the code is pulled it states "low fuel rail pressure". The car has also shut down sevral times. It will start back up immediatly. I listened to all of the bar room mechanics and replaced the fuel pump. After replacing the pump I drove about 70 miles and the check engine light came on with same diagnosis. What else could it be? Also, where is the fuel filter located on this car?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Answer
The filter is in the fuel pump assembly.  So you have already replaced it.  The issue is with the fuel pressure sensor. It can sometimes go bad resulting in the code and stalling condition.  Takes 5 minutes to replace.  It is on the end of the fuel rail right above the throttle body.  Just be sure that when you get the replacement from the dealer (dealer only part) that it matches yours in color.  There is a gray and a black.  They operate differently.  They had different designs for different markets/emissions.  Sorry you wasted your money on a fuel pump.
