Volvo Repair: 2000 V70 wont turn over, vim and vigor, intermittent problem

Question
Purchased a 2000 V70 in Nov 05. Since then it has had an intermittent problem on 8 occasions where I turn the key to start it, all the dash lights go on, but it doesn't turn over. It will not start in neutral either. Each time, I will keep playing with the key with vim and vigor and got it started within a few minutes 7 of those 8 times. After the 7th time, I brough it in and they replaced the ignition switch, but it happened again and spent 20 minutes trying to get it started. All the variables related to the problem are never the same, i.e. weather, cold vs warm engine, etc. The Volvo guys are stumped since they have never been able to replicate the problem while the car's in their shop! They feel the new ignition switch they replaced in July may have been bad so I'm going in AGAIN this FRiday to replace the switch. I'm nervous to go on my road trip to Maine in Sept and get stuck at a rest stop! I appreciate any advice.

Answer
Your most likely issue is with the immobilizer module.  It reads the transponders inside the keys and that is what gives the intermittent start.  Its hard to duplicate, so I usually just put in a module, antenna ring A(around the ignition, picks up the key signal) and the keys have to be replaced.  That usually does it.  There is some sort of code usually associated with this though.  If they did not get any then they will have to just go over the vehicle very thoroughly because it would be something that I have not seen before.
