Volvo Repair: srs light, side impact airbag, s80 t6

Question
I am having a hard time getting the right answer in regards to the srs light.  The dealer ship said it is one of the sensors or the brain, and the light couldn't be rest.  I thought they would be able to narrow the component down.  This light came on after my daughter kicked the back of the drivers seat in my 2000 s80 t6 volvo.  Any info would help greatly.   thanks

Answer
Well without the diagnostic code they retreived from the computer I cannot be 100% sure of my answer here.  But, given that it came on after kicking the seat I would think it is the side impact airbag (which is in the seat) that has either failed or been damaged (most often a wire gets pinched).  The problem is if you cannot clear the code, there is a good chance that the srs module (the brain as you called it) could also be bad.  Approach the situation with caution, but still let the dealer do the work.  You are much better off with that than an independent shop.  If you don't like their diagnosis you can go to another dealer for a second opinion.  If they are convinced that it is the brain that is the problem, get them to put somthing in writing stating that if the proposed repair does not fix the car that you will not be liable for those repair costs unless they can prove that there were in fact more than one seperate problem for the srs light. That way you won't get stuck with a bunch of parts/repairs you didn't really need.
