Volvo Repair: smoke, carbon buildup, cold smoke

Question
smoke coming from exhaust.it is not oil or anti-freeze.is it possible the turbo is going.I hear a winding when the car is cold.smoke only happens when car is idle, and not all the time.Fluids are all ways full.new plugs, air filter, and oil.

Answer
Well check under the oil cap, if its not real clean and there are alot of carbon buildup, chances are some of those particles made their way into the turbo and caused it to start leaking.  Also the seals could have just blown out over time and that is what is causing your leak.  Either way the turbo is most likely your problem.  You can either have it replaced (along with the seals) or you can have it removed and rebuilt.  Just be sure it is sent out to a rebuilder because it does take special skills to rebuild them.  The smoke will only get worse as long as you keep driving it.
