Volvo Repair: a/c cuts off, compressor clutch, v 70

Question
I have a 2000 v-70, on cool days, below 75 the a/c works fine, when the outside temp heats up the a/c will work when you first cut the car on, then the compressor will quit.  I've been told that the compressor is heating up and cuts out and will have to be replaced, I'm wondering is there a sensor that could be replaced instead, or a switch that has carbon build up that could be cleaned? or am I just stuck with having to replace the a/c compressor, clutch ,evaporator etc.

Answer
Well their diagnosis is correct.  The compressor cuts out because of the heat and the only fix is a new compressor.  I believe that just replacing the clutch can fix it but it is much more labor intensive and you don't save enough in parts to make up for the extra labor cost.  The only way that it would be cheaper to replace the clutch is if you were doing it yourself.
