Volvo Repair: 940 belt replacement, alternator belt, bolt

Question
My '94 940 Turbo just threw the alternator belt and the A/C belt has been rolled over(I'm guessing the A/C pump locked and threw the alt belt?)  I need to replace the alt belt but to get to it the A/C belt is still on.  Can I just cut this A/C belt off and run the car to my garage without it on?  How do I install the Alt belt?  The adjustment bracket looks like it is on the bottom of the alternator.  Do I just need to loosen the fron nut and the loosen/tighten  the long adj screw at the end of the bracket to loosen it enough to slip belt on(and then reverse to tighten it back)?  I'm just trying to get in running well enough to take to my mechanic(10 miles).  Thanks for any help you could give!

Answer
Mark, the compressor locking up wouldnt throw the alt belt.  you can cut the comp belt off. Loosen the 13mm nut under the alternator and then back off the long 10mm bolt enough to slip belt on.  tighten the 10mm bolt until belt is snug but not too tight.  Tighten 13mm nut.  See if alt is moving freely,  Hope this helped.  Roger
