Volvo Repair: 89 volvo 740 misc. problems, lazy idiots, volvo 740

Question
1989 volvo 740 SLE (could be wrong but its not the GL etc) its pink, lol.

the switches, all of them seem to be SOL. i reposition and re-alighn them but to no avail. both the moonroof return switch and the rear driver window rollup switches fail 50% of the time. is there a way to replace or adjust them to keep this from happening?

more importantly; i took it to a Tuffy brake place and they fixed the exhaust system but said there was nothing wrong with my brakes. quote: "sometimes volvo brakes are like that, they just squeal".

its not just squealing, it feels dangerous. the front left brakes SCREAM around the last 5 feet from stopping. theres no pumping motion like youd expect with the problem. after starting to move forward from a stop it feels like the pads 'break' slowly then open back up.

ive done a lot of brake jobs on fords/chevys but not volvos. i took the wheels off and the pads/rotors/caliper look fine, lots of wear but nothing out of the ordinary. im afraid to drive or slam the brakes, the noise turns heads and common sense tells me that the Tuffy guys are lazy idiots.

another thing, my front right lowbeam stops working randomly. the highs are seperate lights altogether, they are fine. like, i slammed the door and it went out, hit a bump it went on again. it seems to happen a lot with the driver door shutting. any idea?

oh yea, is there a tool or manual crank i can buy for the moonroof?

yet another, the antenna only goes up and radio only turns on, when i turn the headlights on. not even running lights, headlights only. how can i fix that? ha!

one last thing: my buddy got a free 1981 volvo GL with only 85,000 miles on it, been sitting in a barn for 15 years. the problem was written on a piece of paper on the seat, said 'the strut housings need welded'. any possible elaboration of what this problem might be and who to take it to for repair, ha, and how to describe the problem to them, or how much it would cost?

thanks for listening. any suggestions would be helpful.
peace, -christopher

Answer
Chris, yeah those Tuffy guys are a piece of work.  What you are dealing with is junk brake pads.  I recommend Dan-block or mintek pads.  Then you need the pink silicone paste.  That spray junk doenst cut it.  While you are there, you may want to replace the rotors.  You can clean the window switches and 99 percent of the time that fixes the problem.  The moonroof, you can get the gear and crank assembly but its best to get it at a salvage yard.  On the 81, The strut housings are probably rotted out so for free, what the heck. Get it running and get both assemblies at the junk yard and throw it in there.  Good Luck, Roger
