Volvo Repair: 1994 Volvo 850 door lock and int. child seat, volvo 850 turbo wagon, pb blaster

Question
Hello Roger, I have two questions.  I just purchased a used 1994 Volvo 850 Turbo Wagon.  The driver's door-lock does not accept my key completely -- perhaps the last 1/8th inch does not go in, so I can not turn the lock.  This is annoying as I have to go to the passenger side to lock and unlock the car.  I'd like to know how to remove the lock to clean it out or to replace it or the whole handle with what is on the passenger door.  Can you help?

Secondly, my integrated child seat/arm rest only unfolds about a third of the way.  What can I do to get it to work properly?

Thanks a million,
Paul

Answer
Paul, as for the lock, Try opening the slot with a small screwdriver and shoot some pb blaster in there and see if it helps.  Ususally there is an issue with the lock solonoid in the door or the actual lock in the handle itself.  It is not a fun job to do. As far as that seat, since the car is 12 years old, its probably been through a few kids so the thing is probably bent.  Best bet is to try to find one in a junk yard or just force it down and it might straighten up for you.  Roger
