Question
Hi I was wondering how to go about giving my 99 volvo s80 a general tuneup the warranty is up and decided to start doing work on it myself How do i get to the sparkplugs i guess is my major question and are there coils i have to remove
Also fuel filters and air filters pretty simple are do i need some special tools or anything I usually do my own work on vehicles but this one is a bit of a mystery to me

Answer
Well the big service we do contains the following:

1. Spark plugs
2. Air filter
3. Cabin air filter
4. Oil change
5. Coolant change
6. Brake fluid flush
7. Balance and rotate tires

the spark plugs are under the balck cover on top of the engine.  The bolts are Torx T30 socket bolts.  Most people don't have this kinda tool unless they're a mechanic.  You can find drivers or sockets at sears or most hardware stores.  If it is a turbo you will have to remove all the intake piping on top of the engine first.  Each plug has its own coil held in by a 10mm bolt. NUMBER THE COILS as you pull them off, you can get them mixed up. Plugs are 5/8.  Use factory plugs ONLY.  There are different styles for turbos and non turbo models that the auto parts store won't know about.  The only other item you'll need for you're regular maintnence is an oil filter wrench.  Very special type go the dealers parts counter and ordered it.  The filters are a cartrige type and the canister they go in requires a special socket to get off without damaging it.  There is no fuel filter.  It is in the fuel pump in the gas tank.  The other fluid flushes you will not be able to do yourself (we use special machines for that).  The cabin filter is on the passenger side in the car.  Remove the panel under the glove box (torx T25 bolts) and then you'll see 4 gold Torx bolts, remove those and then the cabin filter is right there.  ope that helps.
