Volvo Repair: fuel injection system 1980 240, volvo problems, mechanical fuel injection

Question
Have mechanical skills.
year:1980  model: 240 series

Car was running well, but has long time
been idle after jumping timing.
After adjusting timing,
tried to start it often not realizing it was out of gas.

Compression good.
Fuel goes through fuel pump and fuel filter and into the line going into the intake. Fuel comes out of only one fuel injector - for #1 cylinder.
The car's owner is extremely medically challenged and a good friend who neds this car running.

You may post this on the Volvo Repair Board.

Thank you,

Rochester McCoy, mechanic, but certified many years ago and not specifically familiar with this aspect of Volvo problems

Answer
Greetings Mr McCoy,
You could remove injectors from line and see if fuel is to them..
You swap injectors if they have fuel..
Remove airfilter and inspect for mice nest...
Adjusting this system requires a bit of talent..
Besides...before this car can be really looked at...you must read fuel pressures..requiring tools..
This is a mechanical fuel injection and it dosent like to sit around and get rusty...
There are a dozen items that can be the problem...including a blocked fuel filter...sticky fuel distributor plate located beneath the round rubber thing under the intake...carefull getting it off...a challange...
Sometimes, old gas sitting in a tank loses its strength and the injectors load up..with solids..
          Good luck,
