Volvo Repair: Volvo 850 oil pan, volvo 850, plastic nut

Question
Thanks Roger,
Given the comment about the cross member lifting tool do I need to lift the engine a small amount to be able to get the pan in and out or just remove the bolts?
Also do I need to remove the power steering lines to get them out of the way?
The wheel well liners are some strange plastic rivit. What is ussaually used to reattach?

1995 Volvo 850, 5 cyl, non turbo.
My daughter punched a hole in the oil pan. With the car jacked up and the bolts removed it appears the intent was to pull the engine for replacment. Is there any other way?
i.e. losen the front engine mounts , removing the steering hydralic lines?

John, Its best to have a engine cross member tool to lift the engine.  You should take the nuts off the front and rear motor mounts as well as the 2 14mm bolts on the side engine mount.  you will have to bend the small u shaped metal piece to get the pan out.  Remember on these, there is no paper gasket.  Its a chemical gasket that get rolled on and the pan and the block needs to be completely clean or it will leak.  You only roll it on the pan just like painting a wall.  This job really should be left to a Volvo shop but if you are handy and have the proper tools, its not bad to do it on the garage floor.  Roger

Answer
John, you dont need to take the P/S lines off or take the liners off.  Yes, the tool to lift the engine would make the job easier for you and make it easier to get the pan back in.  If you are wanting to acess the 2 14mm bolts for the motor mount, remove the plastic nut in the fron there and then fold the piece to get it out of the way and you will have access.  Roger
