Tires: Changing tire size on Dodge Dakota, dodge dakota quad cab, dakota quad cab

Question
I have a two wheel drive 01 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab and I live in Nebraska. I know snows a coming and the 255/65R/16s don't do worth a squat in the snow. I was wanting a very aggressive tire and found one very reasonable in price. I need to know if a 7.50 16 farm/mud/snow tire will fit. I understand that there will be a difference in circumference of about 2 1/2 inches and am aware of the speedometer differences. I just need a tire that will grip for the winter only. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Toby,

Winter tires - ones designed specifically for use on snow covered and icy roads - will be much better than any farm type tire, which are designed to include mud traction - a different compromise.

Farm type tires, especially those in the old, old sizing pattern, are built to a lower quality standard.  They would not have the speed capability of tires designed for use on cars, light trucks and SUV's.  Not to mention they might not meet the legal standards for use on streets.

Even All Terrain tires will be better.  It would be false economy to buy cheap, non-highway tires, designed for an entirely different purpose.
