Volvo Repair: changing ball joints on 84 volvo, torque settings, ball joints

Question
The passenger side ball joint needs replacing on my 84 volvo gl,244. What is the best way to do this?  What are the torque settings? It has high mileage.  Are there special tools I might need? Thank you, Gail Pace

Answer
Hi Gail,
     I have good news...it's a easy job.
Secure car on jack stand..or something that is super sturdy to keep the car from falling on you.
Remove wheel..remove large bolts that attach the B/J to the "A" frame....unbolt the 4 13mm bolts that are attached to strut...tap the old B/J out...often they get rusty.Remove the old part....some B.J's muat be removed from the securing plate..you'll understand..
Install the new part...don't tighten the 13mm bolts all the way in...make sure that B/J is fitted properly...tighten the
big bolts..17mm and 19mm....double check all bolts to be sure..tighten big bolts as tight as you can but tighten the ones on the strut tight but not super tight...dont' break them.
Job done...saved from 50 to 100 dollars..doing it your self.
          Good luck,
