Volvo Repair: road noise on V70 XC, wheel bearing, car choice

I have a 2001 V70 XC with 45,000 miles on it.  The road noise while driving it has increased dramatically over the past two weeks.  The car has been to all its periodic maintenance checkups.  I have mechanical experience with trucks and motorcycles, but not so much Volvos.  I'm guessing the tires either need to be rotated or it needs to be re-aligned.  I would like your opinion before I take it into the dealership.  Thanks for the help.

Hi Eric,
        If you're sure its road noise not other noise like
  exhaust that is touching the body/chassis or something dragging,like your neighbors dog that is stuck to the cat..
         Chances are good that you have tire probs..
            Check tire pressures,be certain...check wear pattern...not much more I can say.
         I doubt it is wheel bearing or related prob..
