Volvo Repair: 740 died now will not start, check fuse, rotor arm

Question
Hi I have a 1989 740SE Estate.I has a 200e engine.Due to the mileometer not working I do not know the mileage. It was a good runner but on the way home from work on Friday the engine just died,no coughs or splutters it just stopped.I tried to restart it and the starter motor is turning the engine over but nothing is hapening. When we towed it home we found the disi cap and rotor arm were rough so I have changed them along with new plugs. It has silicone leads which look nearly new.I have a spark from the coil but still none at the plugs.I can do most basic things and was hoping the new cap and arm would do it.Any help would be very welcome. Thanks TIM

Answer
Hello Tim...
Your model Volvo may have have systems not used here in the U S.
Assuming that your 740 uses the same systems....fuel injection with AMM... and electronic ignition.
Check fuel pump relay...in relay board behind ashtray..it should click when key is turned to start..look at ALL fuses and check fuse that may be located under bonnet..
If a "no start" continues...you may need the wisdom of a quality repairman able to diagnose problems related to the fuel injection...for Bosch F I systems.
Days of simple "no spark" problems that got fixed by adding a set of new points to the distrib....are gone....yes...it bothers me too..
           Good luck,
