Volvo Repair: volvo not starting, engine acts, fuel pump relay

Question
Hey bilbo,
this is adam from a previous question. I own an 83 240 wagon. 2.1 litre with turbo. Ok I put a mian fuel pump on my car from the last time i asked you a question and it no longer stalls driving down the road and it runs really good. However, I now have the car up at school and it has had trouble starting the past few days, and now it wont start period. It will fire for a split second and then just turn and turn and turn and not start.  It has been a little colder, so i turned the key on and off afew times to kinda prime the fuel system a little bit. It sounds to me like the main pump is kicking on intermitantly. When it kicks on, the car fires and then just turns. Sometimes i turn the key on and i can only hear the feul distributor under the hood or the pump in the tank. Is that normal? Does the main pump have to run every time i turn the key to the "on" position? I guess my question is would a new pump have burned out in a few weeks or do i need some kind of relay switch so the pump continuously runs or do i need a cold start injector or some other component like a new ECU or feul pressure regulator? Maybe some other thing i have not considered? I know there's a lot there but I think this problem is beyond my mechanical knowlege at this point. Any insight you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Answer
Dear Adam,
There are more than one reason why your 240 won't start....First,..cold start valve...on top of engine...acts like a choke but puts fine fuel charge into engine for cold starts.
Second, fuel pump relay.. they do fail.
Dirty corroded fuses...often this is the reason for many problems...believe me!!
Check the harness that fits into the I C U on r/front fender.
Fuel press regulater could be the problem...but I doubt it.
            Good luck,
