Volvo Repair: 1985 Volvo 740 GLE Wagon, volvo 740 gle, volvo 740

Hello,

I have a 1985 Volvo 740 GLE wagon Automatic that I believe has blown its transmission.  The reverse still works.  The car doesn't move forward in any of the gears D,1,2,3,...  There is a small leak of transmission oil too.  

I wanted to know if any other transmissions of other Volvo 740 wagon (years) would fit and work on my 85' 740.  Which other Volvo's would work?  And, any advice on what the problem may be with my transmission?

        Most Volvo trannys will work from early as 79 240 to late 80's as long as it's with an O.D....some 740 trannys have a damper bolted to the bottom...it's ok to add a tranny that is without one....there may be a few minor changes needed to change shifter cage from a 240 tranny to use in your 740.
