Volvo Repair: Volvo 740 Turbo Fuel Pressure Regulators, fuel pressure regulators, volvo 740 turbo wagon

Question
About 1 year ago, on a cross country trip, the FPR on my 180K 1989 Volvo 740 Turbo wagon died - no problem, easily replaced with a new one and all was well until it happened again about 6K miles later (2 months ago). Replaced again with a new Bosch unit as well as a new main fuel pump (it was original, anyway).

Now, it appears that less than 1K miles later it has done it again. No power, black smoke, occasional stalling - same as the last two times. Is there something that I am overlooking that is KILLING these FPR's? Now, I *love* this 740 Turbo and by and large it has been a very reliable car, but this problem is making me wary of driving it for fear of getting stuck someplace. Short of carrying a spare FPR, what else can I look at that may be the underlying cause of these FPR failures? Any help appreciated!

Answer
      Wow James...A funny story..
I can't think of any reason why you eat up F P R's
740's have chronic electrical wiring problems...sometimes the fuse box will melt because of too much heat....bad connections.
FPR's are elect.switches driven by vacuum...?
       Good luck,
