Mercedes Benz repair: 1975 300D Hard to start, diesel injection, hose line

Question
My 1975 300D is very hard to Start. I was putting oil in my injection pump, not reslizing I was over filling and that it was going into crankcase.I took a short drive. I noticed heavy smoke from exhaust. I realized what I had done and drained exsess oil from crankcase. Ever since then it has been hard to start. I had new glow plugs put in and valves adjusted, but still hard to start. What else needs to be checked=== HELP!   Thank You Don Silvers

Answer
I doubt any damage was done, unless a large volume of oil = gallons above full.

The starting issue is more likely coincidental, as to when it became apparent.

A leaking primer pump, plugged filter, fuel fungus, cracked fuel hose/line or failed lift pump is more likely.

A marginal starter that looses a few RPM too many could easily cause your issue.
