Volvo Repair: Volvo fuel system - electrical side, engine cranks, fuel pump relay

Question
1992, 740 station wagon, 4 cyl, no turbo, w/air. wouldn't start, noticed that fuel pump wasn't turning on at ignition. checked both pump fuses - they were good. noticed some corrosion in the fuse receptacles. worked the fuses back and forth to help clean up the corrosion and the fuel pump turned on, car started and ran fine. got about 20 miles up the road and it quit completely. checked fuses and tried to clean up some of the corrosion - no luck. engine cranks but fuel pumps won't turn on. any advice? At least one of the pumps was replaced about two years ago. Also, I know when it was replaced we had to order a few pumps in until we got the right one - any way of preventing this? thanks for your help!

Answer
if the fuse is ok now most common is bad relay.

the fuel pump relay is located on the fuse panel behind the ashtray.remove the ashtray and then remove trim around lighter socket then you will see 2 screws remove the screws and the storage area will come out the relay is white and about 1x3x2 inch.it will be towards the drivers side of the panel.
