Volvo Repair: ECU for 1989 240DL, crankshaft sensor, glass fuses

Question
I've got a 1989 240DL 2.3ltr.gas eng. with a bad ECU. I just got a replacement from Volvo and I want to know if there are any special precautions I should take when installing the new unit. It's a very expensive part and I'm travelling with the car in Serbia where there are few mechanics experienced in these matters. I would appreciate any pointers.I had recently had the fuel filter and other maintenance done on the car which may have caused the problem.

Answer
Hello Dobrica,  The only pre-caution is to turn the key to the Off position. When ever connecting or dis-connecting any componant. The only things I would travel with is a 'speed sensor' sometimes called the'crankshaft sensor'.Also take a Fuel Pump relay and extra fuses, the ceramic type,no glass fuses!!Oh, the 'ignnition amplifier,'its what actually creates the spark, the cost about $123/$140 but after all we're talking Serbia.Good luck and keep you 'Third Eye' open!!(The one in the back of your head, the one your mother used to watch out for you!) Thank you and,well.. PKD
