Volvo Repair: Volvo S 80 vibrations, volvo s 80, train wheel

Question
Hi James, My volvo S 80 ( 2.4 170 PK 2001- 100.000 miles) starts vibrating pretty strongly at around 50 miles per hour with a cold engine. When the engine has warmed up it becomes less. Especially between 50 and 65 miles it is the worst but the whole car always vibrates a bit. The tires have been checked etc. Even when you drive the car slowly it seems as if it is a bit wobly to the left and right . The brake discs don't show any direct imperfections but I kind of think they might maybe be the problem? Have you heard of this problem before maybe? I appreciate your imput, sincerely, Hans van Erp, Holland

Answer
It has to be a problem in the drive train.  Wheel imbalance, brake warp, etc.  You should look at: the axles to make sure they don't have any play in them, the rotors for warpage, wheel imbalance, rim is bent, engine mounts in tact (especially the top one), alignment.  Anything in the path from engine to pavement that can vibrate could cause it but usually its one of those I just mentioned.  Hope that helps you in the right direction.

James
