Volvo Repair: 2001 Volvo V70 5-Speed Automatic Transmission, volvo v70, valve body

Question
I recently purchased a used 2001 V70 Wagon (non-turbo, 104,000 miles) and immediatly noticed that when I would come to a stop and take my foot off the brake, the car would remain still for a second, then the transmission would jerk (shift from 2nd down to 1st) and the car would roll forward. This does not happen when you come to a stop and shift down to 2nd -- if you take your foot off the brake the car immediately rolls forward. The fluid in the car is very dirty and does not appear to have been changed recently. Do you think I looking at $4-5K for a new transmission? Or is this a common problem?

Thanks.

Answer
sounds like it needs a new valve body in the transmission.I have done a few for this same complaint.it is actually called a nuetral control and will not do it if you shift from the D to any other gear that is how you can tell it is the valve body.yes it is a fairly common problem
