Land Rover Repair: Tail Light problem 98 Disco, fog lamps, fuse panel

Question
0n my 1998 Disco I several months ago I noticed the tail lights were not coming on when the headlights were turned on even though the brake lights and turn indicator lights work.  I tried replacing the turn signal/light switch module on the steering column with a new one but it did not help.  I get no power indication at the fuse panel for either the left or right sidelight fuses.   What else can I try?

Answer
Hi Terry,

I had a similiar problem with my Disco - turned out that the RH sidemarker light was shorted out.  Water is the usual culprit.

Take a close look at the bulb connectors and wiring harness.

Do the fog lamps work?  It could be possible that the Multi-Function Unit (MFU) has a short.  MFU is located behind the LH side of Fasia Fuse Box, just left of steering column.

You can find this on the RAVE CD, ETM section page 475.  If you don't have a RAVE CD, send me an email and I'll reply with a techsheet that will help you find it.
