Volvo Repair: 2000 S80 engine stop problems, alternate transportation, local shop

Question
Hi,James
I have 2000 S80 Turbo. Two month ago, My car got some noisy in front right side. Recently when I drive slow down in front of traffic light, sometime I got Check Engine light on and the engine stoped.
I found that steering fluid level was low, so I filled more fluid. Then I found that after I drived the car and stoped a while and drive again, the noisy disappeared. But every morning when I drive, the noisy appeared again. At the mean time the engine almost no stop.
Do you have any idea about these problems?
Thanks for your help

Answer
Its very difficult to isolate noises and without a good description of the type of noise and time to actually look at the car i would never be able to find it.  From what you're telling me though, if it is related to your power steering, it may be the steering pump.  If it has been leaking fluid it would start to make noise when the fluid ran out.  If it started to lock up then it could load then engine down until it stops but I couldn't say for sure.  Has steering effort required been more than normal?  I would suggest letting your local shop look at it.  Arrange for alternate transportation though before you drop it off because it can sometimes take several days just to find it.  Double check your warranty because depending on your purchase date you may still be covered.  Hope that helps.
