Volvo Repair: steering wheel clockspring, volvo 940 wagon, 1995 volvo 940

Question
Hi Jim,
I have a 1995 volvo 940 wagon. The airbags were deployed and I have a question about the driver side bag. The wire that comes from the clockspring was fused onto the back of the bag. (new clockspring on its way) Can I pull the wheel without a wheel puller? Any special tricks to setting the new clockspring in place? Will the new connection snap into the back of the bag or will I need epoxy?
Thanks
Jake

Answer
You can pull the wheel without a puller.  Requires very little effort to pull off once the bolt is removed.

The clockspring will need to be centered.  Turn it all the way one direction and then turn it all the way to the other counting the number of rotations it goes.  Then turn it back half as many turns and it should be centered.  Install it onto the steering column with the wheels straight forward.

Haven't replaced one before but if the old wire was soldered to the back you may have to do that again.  If there is no place to put a connector then that will be your only option if you want the bag to deploy next time.
