Volvo Repair: 87 740GLE Wagon, fuel pump relay, fuse panel

Question
thanks for the easy to follow directions on getting to the relay.  after I disconnected the battery, i removed the old relay and installed the new one, connected the battery and nothing.  car just kept turning over but wouldn't kick over.  should I try replacing plugs/wires?

Question -
yesterday was driving it and it started fine. stalled 2x's but would start right back up.  drove it the rest of the morning.  would start normally.  came home at lunch and now it won't start.  seems like it wants to crank over but it just won't go.  was thinking of replacing fuel filter but I can't seem to locate it on the underside of car (manual says it's in a "box" back in he left rear of vehicle.

any clues?
Answer -
IT IS UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE FLOOR AREA UNDER THE CAR.IT IS HOUSED IN A METAL BRACKET WITH THE FUEL PUMP.IT SOUNDS MORE LIKE A BAD FUEL PUMP RELAY.WICH IS LOCATED BEHIND THE ASHTRAY BELOW THE STORAGE AREA.
Answer -
the fuel pump relay is located on the fuse panel behind the ashtray.remove the ashtray and then remove trim around lighter socket then you will see 2 screws remove the screws and the storage area will come out the relay is white and about 1x3x2 inch.it will be towards the drivers side of the panel

Answer
first I would check for spark at the plugs and then check to see if the fuel pump make noise after you crank the car.if you crank the key for a second then release it you should hear the pump make buzzing noise.if it does you would need to check fuel pressure with a pressur eguage.
