Volvo Repair: 960/V90 Engine, proper interval, mileage cars

Question
How hard to maintain is the 2.9L 6Cyl engine in the 960/V90 wagons?  Are timing belt breaks common?  What about the AW72 transmissions?  I am trying to decide btw a usd 965 or 940Turbo wagon.  My main concern is reliability.

Answer
you di not give year of wither vehicle.I would say 95-97 960 is good and as reliable as a 940 turbo I would stay away from early 960 92-94.timing belts break when not changed at proper interval or on high mileage cars where the idler pulleys for the timing belt go bad.if it has higher miles on the 960 when replacing the timing belt replace the tensioner and idler pulley also.because if the 960 belt breaks it destroys the head.maintaining either car is about the same.
