Volvo Repair: Buying a V70XC 1998 in less than 24hrs..., volvo code, volvo forum

Question
Hi-

I'm buying a V70xc1998-put a deposit down and am ready to go
but one thing has kept me awake for the last 2days; I went to a
garage with the seller to have the car checked out and the
following code showed up PO108.

The garage did not know  what the code represented-and after some
research online I got this responds from a volvo forum:
"PO 108 is the equivalent of Volvo code ECM 1000, control module,
signal too high, signal too low. Itermittent failure. If the control module
registers that a signal from the internal atmospheric pressure sensor is
faulty, the control module interprets this as a fault and ECM-1000 is
stored after 20 seconds .The control module assumes 1013 hPa
(14.7 psi) air pressure corresponding to sea level.
This all refers to the trans controller from what I can see."

The problem is that I know nothing about cars, I have dreamed
about having a Volvo-and feel stranded here not knowing what
to do.

I hope to hear from you and get a little insight in what the
problem might be. I hope it's something that is not going to cost
more than I bought the car...

Thanks so much already,

-EK

Answer
I am not familiar with this code off the top of my head.I would need to look up the code on our computer at work and see exactly what it refers to.a 98 should not have a4 digit code either it would only be 3 digits.the code you show as ECM 1000 would be for a99 or later car.I could not find a reference to the PO108 code at home I woould need to try at work.i would have the local dealer check it if possible before buying it.
