Volkswagen Repair: Electrical/Computer?, jetta gl, electrical computer

Question
I just replaced the battery in my 96 jetta GL(Manual Transmission, 4cyl 2.0L, Fuel injected) after starting the engine. The idle seems off, it does not idle smooth any more and after driving for a while it will die when I come to a stop unless I give it gas. It seemed odd to me that it would start doing this just after changing the battery. I dont know if it is just a coincidence that it happened at the same time or what. I did wonder if it reset the computer inside, because before the check engine light was on. When the battery was reconnected it whent off, but I'm just not sure. Do you have any ideas?

Answer
Probably computer.  It amazes me how auto manufacturers are getting away with this bullshit where if you break down on the side of the road, your screwed.  If yer in the middle of the desert - your dead.  That's crap.  You are gonna have to see the shop...I don't got any info for you cept maybe that you try another web site that has owners and mechanics  I find it very helpful.    It is www.vwvortex.com   I don't get anything for telling you,  I just want to help.
