Volvo Repair: Comparative Costs, volvo owner, comparative costs

Question
I'm in the market for a new car and I'm trying to decide between a Volvo and a Nissan.  I've never spoken to a Volvo owner who hasn't loved thier car, but certain "car" people I know always seem to try and talk me out of a Volvo saying that they're generally unreliable and excessively costly to repair.  Is this true?  Obviously it all depends on each individual car, but is it that much more expensive to repair a Volvo than a more domesticated Make?  I'd prefer the Volvo, but I don't want to spend excessive amounts of money to repair the car.

Thank you very much.  This info is greatly appreciated.

Answer
if you buy new it will have a warranty so repairs other than wear items such as brakes or a drive belt will be warranty.they were also offering free maintenance recently.if you decide to keep it longer they offer extended warranty also.I am not sure how they compare to the cost of fixing other cars.
