Volvo Repair: Ignition Control Module, steve diamond, slow crawl

Question
Phil,

I have a 1991 240 Wagon with 105K miles on it. I started it up the other day in the middle of the day after driving it about 20 miles and letting it sit for a couple hours and it idled fine but when I put it in gear it started to lurch forward but would not accelerate beyond a slow crawl.  It did not matter if stepped down on the gas pedal or not.  I had it towed - to my dealer unfortunately as my independent closed early that day.  They are now saying it is a failed "ignition control module" (sic) and that a new one will cost 850 bucks (plus labor).  Does this sound right?

Thanks for your help.!

Answer
Symptoms doesn't sound like ignition related problem.I don't know of what ignition module that costs $850 plus. My first guess would have been to look at the air mass meter.
Now you're at the dealership, the question is to tow it back out or not. If you trust your repair shop more, check with them and see what they recommend.
