I just recently replaced the rack and pinion steering on my 83 240dl due to the fact it was leaking. when we did this we also replaced the power steering pump and put new tie rod ends on. then we had the car alligned professionally.  now the car drives pretty good and leaks no fluid, however turning to the left is much stiffer than turning to the right. almost like theres no (or less if that makes any sense) power steering in only that one direction. i can't figure it out. any help would be great. thanks in advance
Answer -
The problem is internal in the steering rack. There is more pressure going to one side versus the other side. The rack is not balanced internally.
Since the rack was just replaced, there should be a warranty on it. Have your mechanic replace it.

Question-
I replaced the rack myself and i am not too excited about having to do it over again. is there anyway to fix it without just swapping the whole thing out? also, is this something that might get progressivly worse and totally break? sorry to keep bugging you on this but thanks for you help

Answer
It's ok, not bugging me. I need to know what kind of steering rack you put in. Was it a rebuilt or used one...was it new and if so, what kind. There were two options if new, either ZF or CAM style.
If you're not sure either way, look underneath at the front of the rack, on driver side, to see if there is a plate with two bolts holding it in with a small round portrusion sticking out.

Let me know.
