Hey Phil,

I have a 2001 Volvo S60 and when I got in it this morning to leave, it wouldn't start.  When I turn the key, nothing happens but I have power to everything else and I also tried to jump start it and still nothing.  It won't click or anything when I turn the key.  Any ideas?  Thanks...Lance Iversen

Try it in neutral to make sure it's not a neutral safety switch.

Check all battery connections, no corrsion on terminals.

Any type of aftermarket alarm system with an start inhibitor circuit?

I tried all of those things and the start inhibitor is the factory one.  Could it be the starter that is shot?

Answer
This is the only thing left if everything else is ok. To confirm, check to see if current is applied to starter solenoid when key is in crank position. ( this'll need two persons to help check )
If no current, check elsewhere. If there is current, try tapping it lightly with a hammer while cranking. If it then starts, the starter is bad.
