Question -
I have a 1993 960 wagon with 136000 miles on it.
The Transmission lock for the automatic transmission does not release when the brake is depressed and I must use the manual overide to get out of park.
What can I do about this?
Answer -
Be sure the brake lights are working, they're the ground circuit for the interlock solenoid. Then check the fuses and solenoid operation.

The brake lights work and the fuse is fine. How do I check the solenoid?

Answer
With key on, the solenoid should make a slight click noise every time you step on the brakes. The solenoid is at the base of the shifter rod. The plunger should unlock the lever which allows shifting into gear. If solenoid doesn't click, check for power to it and check ground circuit. If power and ground is good, solenoid is bad. If missing current or ground, trace and repair wiring.
