Volvo Repair: Idle problems, mass air flow sensor, air flow sensor

Aloha from Hawaii, I have a 89 740 gle with 125,000 miles. It has the 16 valve engine. My problem is that the idle surges and sometimes the car even dies when I come to a stop sign. The water temp. gauge fluctuates too. But it seems to do this when the car is fully warmed up and the temputure outside is really hot. Here in Hawaii we have very high humidty the temp. here reaches in the 90's. My volvo dosent like hot weather what should I do should I move or is there something I can check.

is there any coolant leakage or coolant loss on the car? How is thermostat? The problem can be also mass air flow sensor. The case is a bit complex, we should know more about the case, if you give me more hints I can help you more...
