Volvo Repair: Volvo S60 - Start Problem, volvo s60, 2004 volvo s60

Question
Our 2004 Volvo S60 will not start.  The battery is not dead, and the radio and inside controls work.  When we attempt to turn the keep, the display screen reads 'Start prevented, try again."  What might be causing this?  We have had this car less than a month.  We are stationed in Germany and cannot have the car looked at today since it is a German holiday.

Answer
this does not mean the battery is dead .the immobilizer wich is part of the antitheft system is not recognizing the key in the ignition.this could be from a bad key or bad antenna ring for the immobilizer or a bad immobilizer control unit.it will need to be hooked to the volvo computer to chekc the signals of the immobilizer system.if you have more than one key try them all.I work with a guy who was stationed there recently from the Army.sorry I could not help more
