Volvo Repair: Oil into air duct, air flow meter, flame trap

Question
Hi,
I am a new owner of a 1989 Volvo 740 with a four cylinders engine, none turbo.
I found a lot oil entrapped into the flexible air inlet duct between the air flow meter and the trottle body. Cylinders compression looks very good: 180 - 180 - 182 and 180 PSI. Few smell of gas observed on the vacuum side of the gas regulator, but nothing to bad. The exhaust does not smell good at all, engine seems to run little rich. Is the presence of oil in the inlet duct can be associated to the oil trap malfunction or something else ? If so, please could you tell me how this oil trap works ?

Thanks for answering.

Answer
the flame trap box is under the intake near the starter.on top of the box is a holder with 2 hoses one large one a vacuum line.inside this holder is the flame trap replace this and be sire the plastic holder, the vacuum line ,and the port that the vacuum hose attaches to on the intake is not clogged
