Volvo Repair: Overdrive problem volvo 240 dl 1986, volvo 240 dl, volvo 240 dl 1986

Question
When I shift into overdrive using the button on the shift lever, it goes on fine when I just started driving the car (cold).  After 10 min on the freeway the overdrive kicks out and shifts back to 4th gear.  If I try to shift it back into overdrive, it will not go in, although the green light on the dash goes on. If I keep driving let say 1/2 an hour on the freeway and do nothing but keep it with the green light indicator on, it will shift back into overdrive by itself and this time it will not kick out by itself unless I stop the car of shift gears based on driving conditions.

I have replaced the overdrive relay (new one), also the overdrive solenoid (used ) and the problem continues.  The only one that I have not replaced is the 4th gear overdrive switch.  I have not been able to resolve this.  Please help me.  I will really appreciate if you can answer me by email.  grandajj@ecs.csus.edu

when is kicks out if the light is going on and off then there could be an intermitent problem in the wiring where it is shorting out at times disengaging the overdrive.it will really need to be looked at when the problem is present to determie the exact problem.I would also check the wiring under the car near the transmission to be sure there is not a bare wire shorting out on the transmission.
