Volvo Repair: engine speed, air fuel mixture, proper diagnosis

Hi,Ihave a volvo 1982 240 CIS eng. B23E 2.3litres. When I shift from:P to:D orR the RPM drops to much and the engine sometimes stalls. Would you please give me an idea.

there are many things that can cause this .I have not workedon many this old but I have seen enough to know they are very tricky to get running properly.I would have it looked at for a proper diagnosis and to have the air fuel mixture and idle speed adjusted properly.
