Volvo Repair: re: hard to start, fuel pressure regulator, proper diagnosis

Question
740gl, 1989 non turbo, automatic, 180K
Recently, I have to crank the engine for a while before engine start. It run rough for few seconds then is OK. Does not matter if the engine is hot or cold.
Please advice possible problems. Thank you very much in advance for any advice.

Answer
there are really many things that can cause this.it could be something in the ignition system such as worn plugs bad wires or cap and rotor.it could be a bad fuel pressure regulator or possible bad in tank of main fuel pump which takes awhile to build fuel pressure.it will need to be looked at for a proper diagnosis.
