Volvo Repair: replacing fuel pump, fuel pumps, relative thing

Question
hi chris,
i need to replace the fuel pump in my 1986 940 wagon. i was quoted $600.00 for the repair. does the gas tank have to be removed? level of technical difficulty?  any extra gaskets involved?  could i be facing a rust factor?  i don't have a manual yet, but have worked on cars before...bmw, saab. is this a job for the shady tree mechanic? any advice or direction on how to go about it would be appreciated.

thanks,

Answer
well in 1986, there were no 940's. as for the fuel pump repair. there are 2 fuel pumps in your car. one under the floor boards, and one inside the tank. when you buy the new pump, they should be able to sell you the appropriate gaskets to go with it. and level of difficulty and rust, are a relative thing, which pump, and what part of the country do you live?
