Buick/Olds: Blown 10A ECM Fuse, gm products, mopar man

Question
I tracked down the problem to the AC clutch. If I disconnect the wires it doesn't blow the fuse. But now that it is getting spark and fuel again it acts like the timing is way off. How do I go about checking it since everything is computer controlled?

Thanks,
Norm

Question -
I have an 87 Ciera that just blew the 10A ECM fuse, and it now blows it as soon as the key is turned on. Is it probably just a bad ECM or is there something else that could be causing it. I am a Mopar man and I don't know much about GM products.

Thanks,
Norm

There's nothing wrong with a Mopar man! But...I believe you could have one of two problems. Either it is a blown ECM or it's a bad or accidental ground. I'd check the wires around the ECM to see if they're frayed or stripped, they may be grounded. If it is a blown ECM, don't worry, you can usually pick up a used one cheap or even a new isn't bad if it's for a 2.8 or 3.1 V6.

Well Norm

Since the timing is controlled by the ECM and the coil packes aand module, it will be necessary to get into the timing chain to check the timing...or you can take it to a garage or dealer to have them put it on the diagnostic center to check the timing and fuel/valve pressure.
