Buick/Olds: 1988 Olds Cutlass Ciera Rear Suspension noise, olds cutlass ciera, 1988 olds cutlass

Question
In my olds, whenever I go over bumps or curbs and such, The rear suspension gives off a low pitched creak. Since winter is approaching, do you think I should wait untill spring? I think it's either the shocks or springs. This is on the rear pass. side.

Answer
Robert

What you are hearing are the rear struts. This may be only on one side, but they will likely both need replacing, it's just that one is making noise. If they are to the point where they are making such noises, it's probably best to get it done as soon as you can. Leaving them will not hurt the struts more, but it can wear down your tires faster, not keep your cars rear on the road ans cause a spring breakage. It's your call on when you want to spend the money, I'd say do it after Christmas at least. While you have the car in the air, get someone to take a quick look at the springs, just to be sure.
