Buick/Olds: problems 2004 alero, car cindy, dash board

Question
i bought a 2004 alero ( dealer car) earlier this year.  now notice that console where gears are fells hot from time to time and although car doesn't over heat tends to run hotter than nl.  one episode of light on left side of dash board came on for about 5 seconds and alarm rang once then went off.  do i need to be concerned , this car gets regular oil changes and mainly runs expressway at average speeds.  all fluids have been checked and are fine. to my knowledge no problems in past with this car

Answer
Cindy,
Everything seems normal.  The reason the console where the gears are feels hot is because the light there is always on.  Even in the day.  If you've been driving for a while or your car has been on for a while, the lights will get hot.  As long as the dinging and light doesn't come on again in your instrument panel, I wouldn't worry.  If it does it again, get the name of the light and take it to the dealer.

Thanks,
Ray Barham
