Buick/Olds: Transmission, automatic transmission fluid, quaker state

Question
Hello,

I have a buick century year 1997, and has 39,000 miles. My question is, how often should I change the transmission fluid?

thanks a lot,
Mark

Answer
Hey Mark.

I'd suggest changing the transmission fluid as often as 50,000 miles. Many times, your manual will suggest xhanging it at 80,000 or 100,000, but I've seen so many examples of people following the book to the letter and getting burned in the end. However, changing the fluid id one step, the filter is your main guard against transmission failure. Your Buick is equipped with a great system that uses the filter to the greatest of capacity, lots of other car companies don't even have filters in their transmissions.

If you'd feel more comfortable, you can change it at 50,000. This would be more prefferable if you do and towing or a lot of city driving. Making sure that you use a good Automatic Transmission Fluid. Don't get the most expensive, just a good name, like Delco, Quaker State, or 5 Star.
